Representative Bernadette Escudero of SORSOGON's 1st District urged her colleagues in the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass the bill lowering the Department of Education personnel' compulsory retirement age.
Escudero filed House Bill 2401 which will lower the retirement age of DepEd’s personnel, including public school teachers, to 60 years old from 65 years old.
“This measure shall also open the doors of opportunities to young teachers and non-teaching aspirants for the jobs at the Education Department,” the lawmaker said.
Escudero added that thousands of DepEd retirees, both teaching and non-teaching, will benefit should the bill be enacted into law.
Under the measure, however, if an employee has less than 15 years of service, he may be allowed to continue in the service until he reaches the age of 65 in accordance with existing civil service and Government Service Insurance System rules and regulations.
