348 4Ps beneficiaries now licensed teachers

At least 348 children of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary families have earned a degree and are now licensed teachers, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Zamboanga Peninsula (DSWD-9) said Tuesday.

Yuri Choi, DSWD-9 4Ps information officer, said new educators passed the licensure examination for teachers (LET) given by the Professional Regulations Commission in October last year.

Some of the LET passers have directly benefitted from 4Ps when they were still in high school, Choi said, while the others “are not monitored children” of families enrolled with the program.

He said a meeting is planned with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to determine how many of the 4Ps children LET passers can be referred for employment.

The DSWD, DepEd, and CHED have an existing agreement to prioritize the employment of LET passers who are children of 4Ps recipient families.

“Supposedly, we will refer all of them for employment, but it depends on the number of slots or vacancies DepEd and CHED will give us,” Choi said.

Of the 348 LET passers, 131 are from Zamboanga del Norte; 119 in Zamboanga Sibugay; 92 in Zamboanga del Sur; and six are from the cities of Isabela and Zamboanga.

Meanwhile, Choi said they will also determine how many children of families who are 4Ps recipients have studied other courses and successfully graduated.

“We will also assist them in finding employment,” he assured.
