Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo of the Marikina 2nd District urged the Department of Education to give Covid19 special risk allowance to teachers who will take part in face-to-face classes.

She issued the call despite the statement of DepEd that no budget was allocated for the provision of additional risk allowances for teachers.

Aside from that, the lawmaker asked that teachers be given priority in the administration of booster jabs against Covid19.

In her House Resolution 77, Quimbo stressed that teachers play an important role as frontliners in the education sector, thus all measures should be taken to protect their welfare.

She added that teachers face unique risks because not all students are vaccinated.

The resolution cited the Department of Education’s findings from October 2021 that only 0.14 percent of minors aged 12-17 and only 50.33 percent of teaching and non-teaching personnel are fully vaccinated.
