The Department of Education (DepEd) is eyeing the full implementation of face-to-face classes nationwide this incoming School Year (SY) 2022-2023.

“Sa next academic school year, ine-expect na natin na fully 100 percent na talaga ang pag-implement ng face-to-face (In the next academic school year, we’re expecting the 100 percent implementation of face-to-face [classes],” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a Laging Handa public briefing on Monday, May 30.

Citing data as of May 26, Briones said that there are 34, 238 schools that have been nominated to hold face-to-face classes. This, she noted, is already 73.28 percent of the total number of public schools nationwide.

Out of the total number of nominated schools for face-to-face classes, DepEd data showed that 33, 064 are public schools while 1,174 are private schools.

Meanwhile, Briones emphasized that the modalities of face-to-face classes may differ depending on the various factors.

“Magka-kaiba sa mga ibat’-ibang sitwasyon ng mga lugar at depende sa LGUs at assessment of DOH (It will be different based on the situation of the area, on the LGUs [local government units] and assessment of the DOH [Department of Health,” she explained.

As recommended by the DOH and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Briones said schools are urged to resume face-to-face classes as long as the protocols set by government agencies are complied with.

“Basta may clearance galing sa DOH, LGUs at the consent of parents, tinututuloy na ang face-to-face classes (As long as there is clearance from DOH, consent of LGUs and parents, we will continue the implementation of face-to-face classes),” Briones said.
