Vice President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte stated that no penalty will be imposed on the teacher who went viral for scolding her students live on social media. The Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) views this as a positive development, as it demonstrates some level of empathy from the DepEd leadership towards the teacher. However, the group emphasizes that this statement should translate into an established policy rather than remain merely a verbal assurance.

“We are glad that VP Sara assured that the teacher will not be punished, and this statement should suffice for the DepEd Regional Office to adhere to. However, we anticipate that this assurance will be formalized into a policy to ensure its application beyond this specific case,” said TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas.

The TDC has long been advocating for a review of the DepEd Child Protection Policy and amendments to Republic Act 7610. They believe that concrete actions need to be taken to ensure the protection and welfare of both students and teachers within the education system.
