DepEd won't oppose P50k teacher's pay

DepEd deputy spokesperson Francis Bringas said the department had already engaged with the World Bank to study the percentage of salary increase for teachers considering several factors.

"'Yan 'yung ginagawa ngayon ng World Bank, nanghihingi lang sila ng mga datos pa para maging comprehensive pa yung kanilang study," he said.

He said that while DepEd does not want to impose a deadline on the World Bank, he is hoping that the study will be done prior to the deliberation of Congress on the bill.

"Hindi naman nag-o-oppose ang DepEd sa salary increase ng mga teacher, it's just that ano 'yung amount and appropriate na i-increase considering na meron tayong [Department of Budget and Management] that determines our fiscal space at saka considering na napakalaki ng bureaucracy ng department mula salary grade 11 and up," he said.

He added: "Ang daming positions that occupy 11, 12,13, 14 until salary grade 28, 29 kaya 'yan 'yung kailangang tingnan kung hindi ba madi-disrupt 'yung staffing pattern kapag nagkaroon ng ganyang increase."
