Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who will sit as Education secretary in a concurrent capacity, is “targeting” to implement full face-to-face classes in schools by August.

“We are targeting that,” Duterte-Carpio said in a press briefing in Davao City on Monday when asked if she is looking at full face-to-face classes for students by August.

According to Duterte-Carpio, she and outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Briones have had several written communications for the transition of the office.

Duterte-Carpio said she would have a face-to-face meeting with Briones on June 25.

The incoming Deped secretary earlier said that she would look into the possibility of a full resumption of face-to-face classes once she assumes post her post.

In May, Briones encouraged all public and private schools to return to holding in-person classes for the upcoming School Year 2022-23.

At that time, Briones said around 73 percent of public schools in the country had already resumed face-to-face classes.

Briones said she expects the 100-percent full implementation of face-to-face classes by next school year, which begins on August 22.
