1. The Department of Education (DepEd) reiterates the provisions of DepEd order No. 36, s. 2016 titled Policy Guidelines on Awards Recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. This Order emphasizes that formal recognition of learners' outstanding performance and achievement must be done in a manner that encourages them to strive for excellence and to become proactive members of the school community' As applied to the announcement of Academic Excellence awards in written media or in ceremonies, this necessitates that learners who have garnered similar awards must be treated in a fair, impartial, and non-hierarchical manner.

2. This Department orders that the announcement of learners who have been awarded Academic Excellence Awards (i.e., with Honors, with High Honors, with Highest Honors) must be made in alphabetical order within categories, not from highest to lowest average grade within categories. For example, given three learners awarded With Honors:

Name of Learners

Average of Grade

Aragon, Margarita

92

Dela Cruz, Juana

91

Zaragosa, Jesus

94

The name of learner Margarita Aragon shall be announced first, followed by Juana Dela Cruz and Jesus Zaragosa.

3. Immediate dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
